Our Mission
After retiring from a distinguished 30-year career with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Andrea Steward returned part-time as a seasoned 911 operator. This unique vantage point, from both sides of the emergency response spectrum, gave her a deep understanding of the critical knowledge gaps within the community. Through her interactions with callers, Steward recognized that people often lack the awareness to distinguish emergencies, navigate the dispatch process, and provide the accurate information that can mean the difference between life and death.
Driven by her unwavering commitment to public safety, Steward founded Be 911 Aware with a mission to empower schools, churches, and corporations with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively in crisis situations. By drawing on her extensive experience and assembling a collaborative team of esteemed public safety professionals, Steward is poised to make a significant impact on the way individuals and organizations prepare for and respond to emergencies.
